The Permanent Magnet Division of SMMA - PMD was established in 2008 and is the successor organization to MMPA and IMA. The PMD mission is to increase the understanding, promotion and effective utilization of magnetic materials, assemblies and systems for the benefit of the Permanent Magnet Division members and all users of permanent magnet products.
The Electric Motor Education and Research Foundation - EMERF was founded in by SMMA in 1995. EMERF's mission is to advance and promote the electric motor industry through education, pre-competitive research and facilitation of technology transfer within the industry and in cooperation with academic, private research and governmental organizations. SMMA - The Motor & Motion Association - SMMA is the North American association with a global focus, for electric motors, drives and their control and application. It serves as the principal voice of the industry and provides a forum to develop, collect and disseminate technical and management knowledge. (www.smma.org)
